Audrey Riggs

How Did I Get Here?

Audrey Riggs is a hair-color specialist, master in haircuttery, creative nonfiction writer, and author of the future self-published memoir The Other Side of the Salon Chair. After a midlife crisis and one too many hot flashes, she set her shears down, picked up a pen and pursued a creative writing degree at Southern New Hampshire University, where she is finishing the young adult thriller Bound to Roots. Having worked for 22 years in the beauty industry, she’s collected more experience and stories than hair splinters. Audrey lives in St. Louis Missouri with her longtime partner, their two daughters and a crippling coffee addiction.

Once Audrey has her degree in hand and hangs up her apron, her future career goals are to finish her memoir, as well as Bound to Roots, then off to the press for self-publishing or seeking representation. She aims to immerse her presence in the International English Honor Society, speak at seminars to further promote the humor in the heaviness of being a hairstylist, as well as strengthening her author's platform through her blog, website, and social media accounts. At some point her joints will likely be shot, and she will no longer be behind the chair. At which time this will better serve potential publishers that are seeking an unabridged, creativity oriented, original (and maybe slightly unhinged) author.
